(10 December 2007, Hong Kong) Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) organised the second International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition in Hong Kong on 9 December 2007, encouraging industry partners to adopt best practices in forklift operations and pallet build-up for developing sustainability in occupational health and safety.
Industry professionals from around the world demonstrated their skills in forklift truck operations and pallet building during the competition. Five international airlines, namely Air China, Japan Airlines, EVA Airways, Emirates Airline and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines respectively sent a team from its home base to Hong Kong to participate in the competition. Local team from Hactl, who was the overall champion last year, also participated in the event.
The opening ceremony was officiated by The Hon. Miriam Lau who represents the Transport Functional Constituency in the Legislative Council; Mr. Eddie Chui, Manager - Aviation Logistics, Airport Authority Hong Kong; Mr. Tang Wah-shing, Executive Director, Occupational Safety & Health Council; Mr. Tso Sing-hin, Assistant Commissioner (Occupational Safety), Labour Department and Mr. Peter Wong, Vice Chairman, Hong Kong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics Ltd.
The competition saw KLM Royal Dutch Airlines winning the "Pallet Building" category, while Hactl won the "Safety Award" under the "Forklift Truck Driving" category and Japan Airlines won the "Outstanding Award" under the "Manual Lifting and Handling" category. Air China took the winner title of the "Forklift Truck Driving" category as well as the overall championship.
