Hactl runs emergency response drill on infectious disease outbreak

(24th July 2007, Hong Kong):  In order to test the effectiveness of the company’s emergency management procedures, Hactl has conducted a comprehensive emergency drill on 24th July (Tuesday) with the participation of representatives from different departments.

The drill was set against the background of a suspected outbreak of avian flu in SuperTerminal 1.  Frequent cases of sickness with common symptoms were first reported from frontline staff working in different areas of the terminal at around the same time. More staff then fell ill within a short period of time which subsequently triggered a chain of events, including heightening media attention, manpower constraints, cordoning off areas for sterilization and enquiries from different stakeholders and various parties.

Staff from all departments overseeing service continuity and those responsible for external communication participated enthusiastically in this drill.  Hactl’s capabilities in simultaneously dealing with different issues arising from this emergency scenario, ensuring business continuity and effective management of media issues were fully tested.

Mr. Kenneth Bell, Director, Service Delivery of Hactl says, “The drill is a very good experience for us to prepare ourselves for a possible real-life situation although no one would like to see that happen.  We shall be reviewing and updating our response measures as a result of this drill. As a good corporate citizen, Hactl will continue to conduct regular drills to equip our staff with the required alertness and mindset to run the world’s leading air cargo terminal.”
