Hactl’s twice-yearly Service Excellence Awards have once again recognized staff who have given exceptional performance. The latest awards covered the second half of 2019, rewarding138 individual staff members from 6 departments. Representatives of Hactl customers AirBridgeCargo, Bollore Logistics Hong Kong, Cargolux, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Nippon Cargo Airlines, Raya Airways and UPS presented the awards at the prize-giving ceremony. Recipients of Hactl’s Service Excellence Awards are typically nominated for displays of outstanding knowledge and expertise, quality customer service, team spirit and professionalism.
16 teams took part in this year’s popular Hactl Annual Bowling Tournament, enjoying a day of fun and friendly rivalry. Service Delivery-GSR team was crowned Champion of the departmental competition, while Yip Fung Chun Jenny of Hacis was named “Women’s Most Valuable Player” for the third consecutive year – having scored an impressive total of 642 points. The “Men’s Most Valuable Player” title once again went to Chung Yu Fan from Learning and Development, repeating his 2018 success, when he was a first-time competitor.
Hactl has held its 2019 Green Week, with the theme: “Green is a journey”. The week-long programme featured a photographic competition and exhibition, planting of organic herbs and vegetables, selling of fair trade coffee and snacks, and a cyanotype workshop – in which participants learned how to make attractive photographic prints using pressed flowers and leaves. Hactl’s airline customers and partners also toured various green facilities at SuperTerminal 1, including the recently-installed rooftop solar farm.
An enthusiastic team of Hactl staff took part for the second time in the Happy@Work event held at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. The team’s theme this year was “Oktoberfest”, with everyone dressing up in traditional Bavarian folk costumes, to participate in a series of fun team building games. The Hactl team walked away with three awards: Best Costume, Best Team Spirit, and 2nd runner up Best Photo. The event was the seventh of its kind, and was organised by the Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong, with the aim of promoting workplace wellbeing.
Colleagues from all Hactl departments recently gathered for their staff party, to celebrate a year of hard work and accomplishments. Held at Asia-World Expo, the event’s theme was “Hactl University”, showcasing the wide range of talents and team spirit displayed by the company’s staff. The event featured singing, mirror dance and the renowned Nanta percussion show, in which the performers made their lively music using everyday items found at SuperTerminal1. Everyone enjoyed an evening of great fun, food and atmosphere, as the company once again showed its heartfelt appreciation for the loyalty and hard work of its team.
Hactl has successfully staged its sixth annual Safety Week, engaging all its staff in a week-long programme of health- and workplace safety talks, games, a “Green Lunch”. In the ever-popular Safety Quiz, Hacis won the Hactl Safety Cup for the third successive Year; while the Office Team won the “Best Safety Team” title by producing and performing a fun short drama on office safety. This year’s event included two new features: “Safety Formula 1”, a VR safe racing game, and “Laughing Yoga”, an activity to remind everyone of the importance of both physical and mental health. In line with its recently-established tradition, Hactl management once again distributed cool drinks and towels to staff, reinforcing their awareness of heatstroke, and as a “thank-you” for their hard work.
Hactl was proud to receive an award from one of its major longstanding customers, AirBridgeCargo Airlines, at the latter’s 15th anniversary celebrations held in Singapore. Hactl Chief Executive Wilson Kwong accepted the “Outstanding GHA APAC” award, in front of an audience of international senior air cargo executives. The award was bestowed in recognition of Hactl’s excellent performance as the airline’s handler of its Hong Kong services.
There’s nothing nicer on a summer day than an ice-cold treat, especially for those whose work involves strenuous physical activity under the blazing hot sun. So, to deliver a little refreshment and show its continuing appreciation of its hard-working staff, Hactl once again handed out free ice creams to its 2,400 staff on one of the hottest days in July. The cold confections were very welcome, and brought big smiles to everyone’s faces!
Hactl has joined with CLP Engineering Limited (CLPE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CLP Holdings Limited, to stage a ceremony at SuperTerminal 1 celebrating the commissioning of its roof-top solar farm. CLPE installed the system for Hactl, and feeds back the electricity generated into the Hong Kong power supply network. The cutting edge 160kW system comprises 516 panels with a total area of 1,600sqm. In its first month of operation, the solar farm has already generated 20,000 kWh of electricity resulting in a reduction of approximately 10,000 kg of CO2. The installation of the system is an important new milestone in Hactl’s long-term, ongoing “Green Terminal” project.
Talented footballers from the entire airport community took part in this year’s Airport Community Football Cup, held at Jockey Club Kitchee Centre in Sha Tin. The 10 teams from various airport organisations took part in the exciting 7-A-Side Competition, competing for medals in the Cup Challenge and Plate Challenge. Hactl’s team walked away with the Plate Challenge Champion, to the loud cheering of the many colleagues who came along to support them.
Hactl once again participated as an exhibitor at this year’s Air Cargo Europe held in Munich, meeting with customers and media from around the world. As a memento for visitors to its stand this year, Hactl created a series of attractive brooches of the Chinese characters which make up its name. A set of photo print tote bags also attracted widespread attention; these featured sections of photos taken at Hactl’s facility by photographer Yan Kallen, who captured Hactl’s cargo handling system in his own unique style, successfully combining its functionality and beauty. Air Cargo Europe is held biennially as part of Transport Logistics - the world’s largest exhibition for the global logistics industry, which attracted a record-breaking 64,000 visitors and over 2,300 exhibitors this year.
Hactl has received a trophy from customer UPS, in recognition of its 100% compliance with the 2019 UPS Airline Internal Evaluation. The airline conducts the evaluation annually to assess each station’s overall operational compliance with its standard. This is the first time Hactl has received this award, and it is the only UPS ground handling agent in Hong Kong to have achieved 100% compliance. Hactl Chief Operating Officer Tan Chee Hong accepted the trophy from UPS representatives Bill Taylor (Vice President, Corporate Transportation) and Luis Arriaga (President, Asia Transportation).
Hactl’s band “The Voice”, formed by Victor Leung and Andy Chan from Service Delivery in 2018, has won Champion in the “Talents from the Airport 2019” beating 10 other acts. The talented group had already walked away with the second runner-up award in 2018 and, determined to do even better this year, they carried on practicing and rehearsing to hone their performing skills! This year’s result also gave the Hactl cheering team plenty to celebrate as they proudly supported their colleagues on stage!
No Less than 174 Hactl staff were publicly recognized for their longstanding contribution and dedication to the company at the Long Service Awards Dinner 2019, held at City Hall Maxim’s Palace. Chief Executive Wilson Kwong proudly presented badges to all staff who had served the company for 20 years or more: 112 staff received 20-year and 25-year badges, 55 received badges for 30 years and 35 years, and 7 staff received badges for completing 40 years’ service with Hactl.
Hactl once again participated in the Men's Relay and Women's Individual races in this year's "Walk Up Jardine House". Leanne Szeto was crowned Champion in the Women's Individual category for the third year running, finishing the 49-floor race in just 6 minutes 15 seconds. “Walk Up Jardine House” fundraises for MINDSET, Jardine's registered charity organisation dedicated to supporting mental health, wellness and recovery. This year, an interactive phone booth that promotes "Voice Up", the theme of the event, was sited at Hactl from 15 April to 26 April, encouraging staff to send supportive messages to family and friends.
5 Hactl teams participated in this year’s Tree Planting Challenge – including one made up of senior management! The annual Tree Planting Challenge is one of the major events of Friends of the Earth (HK). It combines two healthy activities, hiking and tree planting: participants have to plant a number of tree saplings along a 3km trail in Tai Lam Country Park, taking around 4 hours. It was the second time that Hactl had participated in this worthy event, and the enthusiastic teams planted more than 120 trees. To underscore Hactl’s ongoing drive to protect the environment, participants designed a container made from recycled materials to carry the saplings.
For the fifth year in a row, DHL has presented Hactl with its Star Performance Award for Outstanding Handling Service. Chief Executive Wilson Kwong, Executive Director Vivien Lau and Chief Operating Officer Tan Chee Hong were presented with the award by Paul Ennis, Managing Director Operations – Air Capacity Sales, ACS Europe at a ceremony held in Hong Kong.
The number of Hactl’s caring staff who took part in the company’s latest Blood Donation Day, held in March in conjunction with Hong Kong Red Cross, was up by a massive 50%. The next Blood Donation Day will be held in August.
Hactl’s third "Clean Week", which aims to promote cleanliness in the terminal, kicked off with Hong Kong's “Keep Clean Ambassador”, Ah Tak, joining Hactl staff in singing and dancing at the opening ceremony, at which Hactl presented awards for "Best Cleaning Partner – Truckers" and "Best Cleaning Partner – Cleaning Agents". Clean Week activities included guided tours of plastics recycling facilities for Hactl staff, themed games, and DIY soap-making and eco-enzyme (environmentally-friendly) detergent-making workshops. Hactl staff also had the opportunity to visit the WEEE Park (a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment treatment and recycling facility) and EcoPark (Hong Kong's first recycling-business park), and to participate in a Clean Week Slogan Competition.
Hactl has once again won Hong Kong International Airport’s Safety Performance Award for HKIA aviation logistics partners, in recognition of its efforts to ensure safety at work. At the awards ceremony, Mr. Ian Kwok, Assistant General Manager, Aviation Logistics of Airport Authority Hong Kong presented the award to Hactl’s Chief Operating Officer, Tan Chee Hong and members of the company’s Quality Assurance team.
Hactl’s renowned International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition has taken place once again. Nine teams travelled from around the world to take part in this year’s competition: Air Canada Cargo, Air France Cargo, IAG Cargo, Air China Cargo, Cargolux, Japan Airlines, KLM, Nippon Cargo Airlines and Qatar Airways. The event was attended by guests of honour Dr. Raymond So Wai-man BBS JP (Acting Secretary for Transport and Housing), Mr. Chan Ka-lai (Chief Occupational Safety Officer, Labour Department) and Dr. Winson Yeung (Principal Consultant, Occupational Safety and Health Council). It was the twelfth year of the contest, which is a key element of Hactl’s ongoing Safety at Work programme.
Hactl has once again fielded a team of four participants at the major annual hiking event, Green Power Hike. The 2019 team was crowned Champion in the Aviation and Airport Service Cup (repeating Hactl’s 2016 and 2017 successes), with a time of just 6 hours 38 minutes for the arduous 50km course. This was the 26th year of the event, which attracts around 3,000 people. Organiser Green Power aims to deliver a green hiking experience, by integrating environmental elements and messages into the event.
